Oklahoma City Storm Drain Rescue

Oklahoma City Fire Department – We never know how our day will flow, and this morning certainly began with something we don’t see often.

Firefighters from Stations 11 and 22, Battalion Chief 602, Rescue 8, and HazMat 5 responded to the report of a female inside a storm drain. When crews arrived, they found an adult female victim trapped approx. 25 feet below ground in the drain. It appears the victim had climbed in the drain, then fell to the bottom.

The first arriving firefighters quickly assessed the situation, used the jaws of life to cut the metal grate off the drain, and continued working to gain access to the victim.

Once the Technical Rescue and HazMat Teams arrived, OKCFD Paramedics were able to make entry and begin assessing the victim for injuries. The patient was then placed in a safety harness and carefully lifted to out of the drain.

The victim was transported to the local trauma center for further evaluation.
