TAMPA (WFLA) – A retired firefighter is dead after a multiple vehicle accident in Riverview that shut down all southbound traffic on I-75.
The crash happened just after 4:30 A.M. near SR-301. FHP says three cars were involved in the accident. A first accident occurred when officials say a Toyota Tacoma stopped in the left and center lane and was hit by a silver Buick.
According to FHP officials, witnesses stopped to assist those in the crash. One of those Good Samaritan was retired Sarasota County firefighter Wesley Weysham Jr. Weysham died when a third vehicle crashed into the pickup truck. Witnesses say the Weysham was attempting to rescue a person from the truck from the previous crash.
