HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (Houston Chronicle) – Firefighters rescued one mother and three children Monday morning in a Willbrook-area apartment fire that destroyed 16 units.
First responders arrived at 14131 Cornerstone Village Dr. just before 2 a.m. to see flames raging in the Cornerstone Village Apartments.
One building was destroyed in the blaze, which went through the roof, causing it to collapse, a fire department spokeswoman said. The Little York Fire Department responded, as well as about eight other departments, she said.
Everyone is believed to be accounted for, and no injuries were reported. Firefighters extinguished the blaze before it spread to other units.
One family had to be rescued from an apartment balcony as flames approached behind them. As the children were brought to the ground, she called out to firefighters, “Help me, please.”

Margaret Williams, her husband and their 5- and 10-year-old daughters escaped the fire before it reached their apartment. The family has been through one fire before, Williams said.
“Starting over is the hard part,” she said. “I worked hard for everything in that house.”
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The Harris County Fire Marshal is investigating.
