Just wondering

I was just wondering if anyone else goes on the local news websites and copies and pastes any articles from calls they were on and saves them. Every fire call we are on and the news crews show up usually the next day I go through and save the articles on my computer, I know that sounds wierd doing that and of course I have been called(jokingly though) a freak and such LOL. I like having these I guess don't know why maybe its a phase and it will soon go away. I was wondering if anyone else did th… Continue

Structure Fire

WOW we had another incident, a structure fire in an office warehouse that houses electronic bingo games. The call went out as a burglar alarm at around 3 AM and once the Sheriffs got there they were calling it fire thru the roof working structure fire. My Engine (45) was first on scene after the battallion, and was told to check the roof and verify whether it was thru or just a roof fire. we laddered the roof and it appeared to have burnt thru. Then made entry to the adjacent office and found sm… Continue

Bad Night

Training got messed up last night due to a bad call, We got sent out at a little after 1800 hrs for fatal auto accident, not a good way to start the night. We actually ended up going on 3 MVC's before things let up, all due to the weather here in the Dayton area. I know ther was nothing more I could do but the mind today is running through what happened and trying to figure out if I could have done something different. I guess its just me but I wonder if everyone feels that way after a bad call?… Continue

John, I'm sorry to hear about your bad call the othernight. I go through the same thing and always wonder if I could have dispatched some one sooner if they wuld be okay or maybe if they would have gotten there sooner, etc. I think we all go thru this and it's a very rough thing to go through.
I really don't know what else to say except i'm sorry and I know what your going thru.

I absolutely love being a dispatcher. Especially for the fire dept. Everyone says I am nuts to be out there and doing the stuff I do because it's all volunteer for the Fire Dept. When I get patted on the back by the BLM and DNRC and our other guys, and county guys, that is enough thanks for me. I don't need to be paid to take care of my guys. I have my guys totally spoiled, and they know it, but, there isn't a thing I wouldn't do for any of these guys and gals or my guys and gals.
I've been there going on 9 years and I love every minute of it.
