The Two Year Mark

Well here we sit, exactly 2 years after KATRINA and life stumbles on in Hancock County. The suicide rate is 14% higher than it’s ever been, Doctor’s are handing out free 3 week supplies of anti-depressants like M&M’s at a kid’s party and the only ones enjoying themselves are the Casinos.

Rosy pictures are painted of Biloxi and Gulfport due to the fact that most if the filming is inside a brand spanking new Casino. Hanc…

On the lighter Side for Katrina's 2nd Anniversary

Mississippi Hurricane Season Notes:
We are now in the hurricane season. In the coming months, you're going to turn on the TV and see a weather person pointing to some radar blob out in the Gulf of Mexico and making two basic meteorological points:

1) There is no need to panic.

2) We could all be killed.

Yes, hurricane season is an exciting time to be in Mississippi. If you're new to the area, you're probably wondering what you need t…

Yours Truly

Well, I've been in the business for 32 years and still learn something new every time I roll on a call.

I'm a KATRINA victim/survivor/responder, and am slowly rebuilding my life and my home, as well as dealing with the psychobabble shit that came with it... nightmares, short temperedness, a propensity to get the shakes in a bad thunderstorm... I'm rold it's PTSD.

I have a warped sense of humor, and can trade put downs and one liners with the best of them. And will enjoy an adu… Continue

Hey bob nice to kinda meet you lol. Yes I am planing on coming down in November/December. I have to see what will happen up here first-I'm a Volley right now-but scored really well on the Civil Service test for Schenectady county for the position of Paid Fire-Fighter-from which 3 paid departments hire off: City of Schenectady, the Village of Scotia and the Town of Niskayuna District #1. So if all goes well I might have to post-pone my visit-but I do want to return. I love it down there-just wish there was more I could do.. Glad to see you guys are at least having fun with the current situation-God knows I wouldn't know where to begin.
Well Godspeed and next time I'm down I'll let you know when I'm in town and see if Chief Kim can get some kind of picnic/drill where we all can hang out and talk the job up!

Hi Bob, you must be a great guy, got a good name, yellow fire truck and a few years in the business. Glad you made it thru Kat. We had a few medics stranded in NO, they were attending the EMS conf. Stay safe, and best wishes.

Hey Bob;

I can not imagine wht you have gone through, but like most first responders I am sure in the height of the storm you were still doing what we do best. I live on Long Island, I think one of our neighboring FD (Middle Island) sent you some equipment. I spent alot of time down in your neck of the woods. My Kids used to live in Diamond Head and they went to St Pauls Catholic school for a few years, until I got them back home with me. Be safe out there and good luck with your rebuilding.

Shawn
