Why I Joined the Fire/EMS:
It's in my blood. My Grandfather joined when he was 16 years old, my Dad joined at 18, and my Uncle at 18. My Grandfather was also the Chief my whole life. When he passes away in 2004 we think he was the longest active member of a dept in the nation, at 67 years. Firefighting is our whole family. I love these guys!

Self Involvement...

I don't know how many people are aware of Firefighter Close Calls' web site, but I am on the secret list, and I receive emails from Billy Goldfedder about happenings in the service. Today I got an email that really hacked me off and I am ready to burst...my head may explode, but I have the duct tape ready. The most recent email was about an VA engine co. Injuries....

As we grow old we neglect to want to act our age, and so as often happens, injuries occur. But sometimes things could be prevented. In my case of course the only course of prevention would have abstained from horsing around, but it just looked soooo fun!!! Rope rescue!

Dude, so I totally love learning rope rescue. We had a drill tonight lead by Captain Jon Parker (he works for BP Refinery full time) that he showed us 4 on 1, wrap 3 pull 2, we worked on knots, and dropped and pulled him up on the bridge over the Ottawa River (which by the way better be safe now cause we let him in the water, he could wake up with a 3rd eye or something) It was really interesting, and truly makes me wanna go out and get all the rope rescue classes I can afford (which unfortunate… Continue
