Started as a Reserve Police Officer in 1991 and prior to that was in the US Army fulltime.
Relationship Status:
Married
Primary Fire/EMS Department:
Pine Bend Refinery Fire Department, Rosemount MN
Department Type:
Fire/Rescue Department - Paid, Industrial/Institutional
Rank/Role There:
Fire Chief / Chief of Department, First Responder, Hazardous Materials Team Member
Years With This Department/Agency
6
Other Past or Current Departments:
Hastings Fire Department /Retired
My Training:
FF2, Industrial Firefighter. 1st Responder, Hazmat, Rope Rescue,
About Me:
Fire Chief of an Industrial Fire Department located in a large Refinery in Rosemount Minnesota.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Quality Training and quality Certifications. The good old boys groups need to be broken up. I served as a Lieutenant on a municipal department that only promoted family members, and or those people who were close friends with or worked for the Asst.Chief on the outside. Huge issues with ethics and honest operations. I pushed back a little bit on some issues and asked questions, then I became a marked man. Sad but true story, and this is happening all over the Midwest. I retired early and concentrated on my Industrial career.
I Love Being in Fire/EMS Because:
The Team concept, Serving with the best guys I have ever had the privilage to know.

John is a 28 yr. old loving father, husband, son, brother and friend. John was injured back in 1998 while on duty as a paramedic. He responded to a call of a person who was overdosed on street drugs, and while responding...this person through my husband out of a 2nd floor story window. My husband suffered many surguries to the right leg which caused the knee to be fused, vascular skin graphs among other issues involving the leg. Because of the injury to his leg, he has obtained MRSA and VRE, can barely stand on his leg, every step is painful.

On July 29, 2008, John will be having an AKA (above knee amputation) of his right leg. We are setting up a fund for John. He will be in the hospital for 5-7 days followed by visits at home by the VNA (visiting nurses association) and then followed by months of rehab.

A fund in his name will be made with Citizen's Bank here in Manchester, New Hampshire. Your donations (if you wish to help) will help pay for gas to and from the hospital (the hospital is 18 miles away from Manchster), hospital and rehab bills. If you wish to help, there are two ways to send a donation to this fund.

I can see the advantage of leaving the public service to work in private industry. What prompted you to leave the Sheriff's Office to go firefighting?
