Preventing Hazards in the Use of Water Spray (Fog) Streams to Prevent or Control Ignition of Flammable Atmospheres

NIOSH ALERT: July 1985 DHHS (NIOSH) Publication No. 85-112 WARNING! Fire departments and teams responding to incidents involving flammable gas or vapor mixtures are cautioned that the use of water spray (fog) streams to prevent ignition or control flame propagation may be extremely dangerous: Significant fires or explosions can occur despite the use of water spray. Under certain conditions, the use of water spray may in fact increase the severity of such fires and explosions. It is unlikely t… Continue

Mercury Spill Control 101

Beads, vapor characteristics make step-wise cleanup vital Since the early 1990s, U.S. environmental regulations have eliminated the development of mercury as a new product. Despite these changes targeting mercury use, alternatives have been slow to develop, and in cases such as precision measurement devices are not possible. As a result, mercury has been mined through reclamation and recycling processes. Consumers can still find mercury in high-pressure sodium lamps, fluorescent bulbs, some the… Continue

I still keep in contact with Bobby Bread, Tracy Clark and even Butch Beardsley helped my with a class I was teaching for our Regional Haz Mat team last summer. I got hired at EmTech through Chip Day. I still see Chip ever now and then.

After watching the video you posted it is clear AR-AFFF is the best at fighting a fire contaiing ethanol. Is it effective enough for us to replace the class B foam we carry now, afff, for all hyrocarbon fires? Due to space and cost, I would like to stock the engines with one type of class B foam and since the most likely class B fire we will face will be a gasoline tanker, it will have at least E-10 in its tanks, therefore I think AR-AFFF should be on the engines. I want to thank you in advance for your time on this

I just watched the video you posted on ethanol fires, i wish more videos on this site were as useful as this one. in missouri state law mandates that all gasoline is at least 10% ethanol. so this will be a problem for many of us in the show me state.thanks and keep up the good work
