Jumpers from Alaska and Montana parachute into remote area

Published Thursday, September 20, 2012

YouTube/drewjumpsin07 - In June of 2012, smokejumpers from Alaska and Montana parachute into a remote area in Alaska to protect structures in the path of Fire 225. The video is taken over the course of three hours as the flame front approaches using a helmet mounted camera. The last shot is from a helicopter as the jumpers leave, showing the line where the fire was held around the structures. Protecting these remote structures preserves the rich tradition and subsistence lifestyle still practiced in the Alaskan bush.
