FLINT, Mich. (AP) — A state fire inspector plans to excavate at a retirement home in Flint to help determine the cause of a fire that injured 10 people.

Michigan State Police Sgt. Lenny Jaskulka told The Flint Journal he didn't want to speculate about the cause of Sunday afternoon's fire at Rosehaven Manor Retirement Community. Police said the injured included two firefighters.

Rescuers used a ladder truck to reach upper levels of the complex. The Detroit News reports family members and neighbors helped with the evacuation.

The American Red Cross says the fire destroyed or damaged several units. Police said eight residents were treated for injuries. Evacuated residents were sent to the Burton Senior Center to receive temporary housing assistance.

The Red Cross says it will be days before some residents might return.
