the fog causes the fire to come at em

Yes you are correct. Remember right to fight with a combination nozzle places it in STRAIGHT STREAM. Straight stream knocks the fire down, reduces the thermal imbalance, less steam conversion.

When the fire wraps around the instructors head and shoulders, the nozzle has been adjusted to a full fog pattern which introduces the inrush of air from behind the stream. The Fire will wrap around the stream and flashburn you.

I have had this same thing happen with improper stream selection from a student while using the Propane Tree and ARFF Pit. Only difference being the guys 2nd or 3rd on the line were the ones engulfed in flames well behind the nozzle.

Are they saying that using the straight stream causes that or the fog? I think it would be the fog!!!!!
