Volunteer Firefighter Gets Spiked In The Brain!

A volunteer firefighter in Penrose, CO got a lesson in anatomy that he probably doesn't want to go through again. Chris Clear was helping a friend move a roto-tiller when SNAP! He said it was just like a rock hitting his face, but it didn't feel like anything went further than that. He went to his mom who said his nose was pouring with blood.
They drove to the hospital where they took an X-ray of his NECK (the focus of his pain) and said it was a cervical sprain.

After returning home, the pain got worse if he leaned forward , backward or to either side. So, they returned to the hospital where the source of his pain was finally discovered. If he moved forward, the pin would move forward, if he leaned back the pin would sink in.

That's right! A pin from the roto-tiller snapped and the blunt end of the pin shot in through his nose. The pin went right past his eye socket, and lodged in the back of his brain!

It took 9 hours to remove the pin from Chris' head.

Two months later, Chris is working again as a volunteer firefighter. He's also training to be an EMT.

It is just amazing that he survived that sort of trauma. But I am glad that he has recovered and is back at doing what he loves. It just reminds us that nothing is ordinary when it comes to injuries of any kind..
