What If?

What if I never see tomorrow? There’s never a written guarantee The things that happened to us yesterday belong to history Even tho I cannot predict the future I definitely cannot change the past I have just the present moment Which I must treat as my last I must use the moment wisely For it may soon be gone away And be lost to me forever As part of yesterday I must exercise compassion Help the fallen to their feet Be a friend to the friendless Make an empty life complete The unkind things I… Continue

"A Broken Heart"

"There's nothing like a broken heart. Two pieces that fall apart. Each going its own way. Is this really the right way? Does it solve a single thing? Or is it a way of being? A broken heart, Is it really better together or apart?" Copyright ©2006 Dale F. Barker Continue

Brothers and Sisters

As a body is one though it has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though many, are one body, so also a fire department. For in one Spirit we were all sworn to duty into one department, whether firefighters or lieutenants, captains or chiefs, and we were all given to serve of one department. Now the body is not a single part, but many. If a foot should say, “Because I am not a hand I do not belong to the body,” it does not for this reason belong any less to the body. Or if an ear should… Continue

OLD ROUTE 89

A drunk in an Oldsmobile They said had run the light That caused the six-car pileup On 89 that night When broken bodies lay about "And blood was everywhere," "The sirens screamed out eulogies," For death was in the air. "A mother, trapped inside her car," Was heard above the noise; Her plaintive plea near split the air: "Oh, God, please spare my boys!" She fought to loosen her pinned hands; "She struggled to get free," But mangled metal held her fast in grim captivity. Her fright… Continue

"What Am I" - Poetry

Are you scared of what I have become? So I have stop following the crowd. I have to escape from what makes me less proud. My dreams, My dreams If they come true. Out of me, my passion streams Guiding me with what I have to do. I am no longer frightened By what people think. As my path begins to lighten my weaknesses begins to sink. Sometimes you have to follow your Heart. Since some choices are made by one’s Heart. By Dale Barker Continue

"Firefighters Are" this is no farther from the truth.

Firefighters are those crazy people who run into a burning building when all others are running out. Firefighters are those people who wake up in the middle of the night to help an old lady, who fell out of bed. Firefighters are those people who work on half eaten meals because someone needed their help. Firefighters are those people who have a second family that seems just like a first family. Firefighters are those people who never usually get thanked for doing such a good job. Firefighte… Continue

Poetry

“INSIDE OR OUT” As the alarm rings out, There’s a sound of a distant shout. In the dark sky there’s a glow, As the fire and flames start to grow. Fear is the feeling in the air, As everyone is starting to care. Where was that shout? Was it from the inside or out? The intensity of the fire grows, And then nobody knows. Where was the shout? Was it inside or out? As the smoke grows thick, And we started to feel sick. The result of the shout, Thank God it was on the out. By: Dale Barker 2006 Continue
