Why I Joined the Fire/EMS:
I originally applied to the 911 center, because I thought I would eventually apply to be a police officer, but by the time I was 21 yoa I realized I was loving being a dispatcher and making the same money not to be shot at or spit on, so I stayed.

Safety. Too much emphasis placed on policy vs common sense. Constantly changing policies leave personnel wondering if they have something right and/or second guessing themselves.

Thanks for commenting on my blog. You are right. The people that have no connection to the Emergency Services can't understand how we feel. They do have their blinders on. They need to remember, they need to talk to us & see & feel our emotions.
Anyway, I do remember hearing the hollowness in the voices of our dispatchers here. I could tell some were just barely holding it together. I have a lot of respect for you dispatchers. You may not be in the front lines, but you do provide a very important service. Don't let anyone tell you different. Stay safe & sane!

My hats off to all dispactchers. You take it from both sides. The public on the phone and the responders on the radio. A tuff job, but I'm glad someone else does it. Again my hats off!! Thanks

Your department policy should coincide with your state regulations. The police are going to enforce what ever your state regulations requires! If the the two are not coinciding, then the police will be pulling some more members over!

Is it just me or do some people not take this job seriously enough? I am by no means an old hand at this job, but it seems that lately incoming firefighters don't quite seem to realize that our profession is, in fact, a dangerous one. I get that ...
