Damn. "Their deaths are under investigation." It seems that for the right reason he may have done the wrong thing. He has paid the price and the price was too high.

Hi Chief, Can you please tell me how to find all the messages I've sent out. I've looked in my Sent file and I think Firefighternation deletes things after a certain number of months because messages that I sent to and from a male fire fighter in Russia (I think it was) are not there. I sent this fellow several messages and he sent me some, so I can't understand why I can't find them. Thanks. Kathy Williams, Ontario Canada.

LESSONS OF COURAGE
By Al Mozingo
www.firemanager.com

It has been said over the years that “we need heroes.” We tend to choose people in the public eye that are actors, athletics, or someone who have wealth and power. The criteria we use today are the rich and famous. Is that really the criteria we should have to choosing our own personal hero? Choosing someone because of his or her position in life or because they have wealth and power is neglecting the higher virtues. We should be more concern with who the person is in his or her heart, focused on someone’s character more than anything else.

The transition from the word hero now to leader is the paradigm change I want you to make in your mind. Who are true leaders in our country? Those that are very skillful politicians? No! Those that throw their weight around because they have wealth and power? No. Those that are adept in auguring and talk louder and more passionately than others? No!

How about those who stand on principles? Those who instead of negativity, strive to have a good outlook, strive to see hope, not despair. Those who want truth and justice to reign. Those who are people of integrity, people of high character, people who “walk the talk.” People of courage in their convictions!

The book Profiles in Courage by John F. Kennedy was originally published in 1956. So what have we seen change over the last 50 years? Are the lessons in courage still relevant today? If you haven’t read this Pulitzer Prize winner by one of our former Presidents of the United States, you should. Below I am going to give a brief overview of some of the thoughts from JKF in his famous book Profiles in Courage.
