its funny hows our views differ. I love being a firefighte/paramedic. but when you work in a neighborhood that 3/4 of the people think you are garbage and They call you and tell you how to do your job, and if you do it to the best of your ability,...

About Me:
I joined South Media Fire company in feb. as a probationary firefigher. I chose south media because my grandfather was a member there and so i knew many of the members there. My grandfather was George T. Lewis a very well respected fire marshal and fire service advocate in delaware county. He served as county fire marshal till he died in 1991. he pioneered many ideas that are in use today and help establish a county wide training center. I just wanted to continue in his foot steps and leave behind my own legacy in the firefighting world.

My name is Christian Lewis i'm a firefighter for South Media Fire Company. I joined the fire service cause i always wanted to be a firefighter since i can remember. Both my father and grandfather were firefighters and so i am third generation to be a firefighter.

Alittle about my department

Incorporated in 1922, the South Media Fire Company #1 protects the residents of Nether Providence Township and Rose Valley Borough in Delaware County along with our sister company, the Garden City Fire Company #1. These two fire companies form the Nether Providence Township Fire Department.
The South Media Fire Company #1 (Station 51) protects 14,400 people living in a 5.4 square mile area. We protect a primarily residential area. The South Media Fire Company #1 is an ALL VOLUNTEER company and we have an ISO rating of 4.
Station 51 also assists the Swarthmore Fire And Protective Association (Swarthmore Borough), the Media Fire Hook and Ladder Company #1 (Media Borough) and the Rose Tree Fire Company #1 (Upper Providence Township) with fire and rescue services. Station 51 also protects Route I-476 (The Blue Route) from Interstate I-95 to US Route 1 along with the Garden City, Springfield and Woodlyn Fire Companies. Media Fire Hook and Ladder Company #1 provides ambulance service and Riddle Memorial Hospital Provides paramedic services to our jurisdiction.

I joined ff nation to be among others that share my love for the job. Also since i'm getting training now any tips tricks or insight would be vastly appreciated.

What is it to be a Firefighter?

What is it to be a Firefighter?

We are always asked what it is that drives us to do what we do. It’s not just about all the training, checking and re-checking our equipment, or riding through the streets with sirens screaming. It is about making a little kid’s day because you let them look at the rig. It’s about the unspoken thank you, you get when you save someone. It is about providing a service to your community that gives you a sense of accomplishment that you have done something great. To… Continue

The Corinthos Disaster

The Corinthos Disaster

By Christian Lewis

A number of people who have Delaware County for the better part of their lives have come to know of the County’s major emergencies like the Wade Dump fire. However there is one event that was very distinctive and very dangerous. The Corinthos Disaster was unique in several respects most notably it was the largest disaster of its kind to be contained by an all-volunteer response. January 31, 2009 will mark the 34th anniversary of this major event in th… Continue

firefighter down

A 19 year old Sharon Hill Firefighter remains in very critical condition with burns and related traumatic injuries after being struck and trapped by the exterior collapse of a garage at a fire call last night. Initially the cops arrived confirming a working fire in a detached 3 car garage. Companies arrived and went with an exterior attack using 1-3/4" hand lines. While they were operating, there was a outward collapse of a wall. The Chief estimated that they were about 8 feet outside of the bui… Continue

Your department policy should coincide with your state regulations. The police are going to enforce what ever your state regulations requires! If the the two are not coinciding, then the police will be pulling some more members over!
