An update from the modifications done to our 2004 HME Silverfox, it went to the shop for pump lever modifications. They turned the #1 valve 90 degrees and tweaked the #2 some I forgot exactly what was done to it. They work a lot better and pretty ...

Wouldn't take one if someone gave it to us, too many QA issues. Would not even consider spec'ing an Apparatus with an HME chassis. My opinion having "worked" on them.....JUNK!!!!!
November 13
We set up a minumum of 2 dump tanks on every fire. We carry a 2100 and 3000 gallon on our tanker.

As our jurisdiction is rural, our first engine is always in the drive as to get off the narrow roads and lay in if needed. If we lay in we make a good attempt to get the water supply engine off the road in the end of the driveway( for this reason ...

In 1975 there were 2 hard parts the weather Chanute in March was fun marched to the hanger in an ice storm (yes no busses back then) also Sgt Otto the block 5 burn chief was a real trip I still have the notch in my chest where the nozzle goes.

I would have to agree with the helo.. That's the only time I dry heived in my mask.. the rest wasn't too bad. 300ft hose drags was tiring but atleast we didn't wear masks. Large frame IMO was one of the easiest burns we did.

i would have to say helo rescue was the hardest part of the academy for me. The large frame aircraft burn runs a close second though.

We can fill off of pretty much any type of water source. Our tankers are pumper/tankers. We will usually send our 2nd out engine to a draft site close to the scene and it will fill the tankers. Makes it a little quicker to fill them.
July 7
We fill our tankers with a water supply vehicle that is capable of filing over 2000 gpm. We have 5in fills on the back of our trucks reduced down to 4in cam locks so it easier to connect to. Most of our tankers are 2200 gal with side dumps.

We use the nearest open feild or big yard. Primarily if we have time we will put them at the township park and can fit 4 birds at once. To mark the area we use 4 cones durring the day and at night we use battery powered electronic traffic flares....

Our standard setup is to put a 5" gate valve on the steamer port and a 2 1/2" gate valve on the 2 1/2" port and never have to close the hydrant till we are done. It frees up an engine and man power.
