If you read what I wrote, my whole concern was about FF1, and a lot of options that could have been used to help pull him back.

You have some useful training alright :)

Urban interface is a big thing for us, we don't have many big cities, but those we do have sprawl!

Stay and defend or leave early - this has been working for years here. Nobody is forced into it, totally voluntary and we teach that whichever decision you make is the correct one for you. My eldest son and his wife have just had to make their decision tonight. Any fires tomorrow are almost certain to go out of control, and they live in the interface. They have National Park all around them. He will stay, she will bring the two little girls to my house around mid-day. Their decision, made together, so a correct decision.

Hello Patricia. You want work? Like what I hear in the USA, career firefighter jobs here are much sought after. Always hundreds applying for each vacancy on a course! Plenty of space for more volunteers, but it's hard to live on no money!

Have a look at these two sites, our two State Fire Services:
www.cfa.vic.gov.au and www.mfb.vic.gov.au

Jake, I would have thought that a "threshold" ff would be a transitional stage, from exterior to interior, or I suppose it could be the "next" level up as "firefighter", you know as in: exterior, threshold, interior, roof, basement, sunny day, rai...

Perhaps, and this might be a stretch, but it may have to do with: 1) The perpetual whining about why career guys don't like volunteer guys (ever hear a paid guy whine about vollies not liking him/them?) 2) The fact that there are differences betw...
