I think unless they are willing to pay for it with out raising the Taxes or robbing peter to pay paul they are in for a fight. Volunteers have a sense of duty and pride that runs deep and having grown up in a volunteer Dept and being an active mem...

I don't buy the "people are too busy" or "not enough money" arguments. There is a major long term trend in loss of membership in all volunteer organizations, especially those that actually do some real work. Why? People in general are lazier. They...

I'm not sure where you got these facts from, but if the Fed's are saying that, then once again it proves that most politicians are idiots and can figure out that 2+2 doesn't equal 279. The reason I position my response that way is because everyone...

Its already happening in my combo department. The Chief recently took a new policy manual to the district board for approval. The volunteers had no say, no imput, etc. in the new manual and the board would not hear us out and adopted the new manua...

For over 20 years the dept. I am with functioned with a budget of 11,000 bucks. Granted we didn't have the fancy new rigs, and were using used turnouts., But we were still out there. Now we have a better budget, and we have better equipment, but w...

Did the chain-saw course last year with Stihl, a pretty good course. We took an old pair of bunker pants, they cut up pretty nice. Trainer stated last course they did for a fire dept. was told they do not need to wear chain saw pants as they have kevlar in them. This spring I finished my Pump Ops cert. course was very long. 2 full weekends plus about 40 hours of pre-course material. Your right lots of time put into it, more so with getting your stuff put together for training night.

Check out Roll Call Forum and put some info about your Fire House in... Like to hear what your station is like, what you have as well as for number for firefighters as well as number of calls. Pass it around to your Firefighter Friends too....
