Josh, I've been mega-busy as usual. We're around 6 weeks from the completion of our training center and still have everything else going on as usual, plus more fires that usual, so I don't have lots of free time.

I'm mostly catching up on my sleep this weekend.

Hey josh howzit goin? last night was "myclass" 20 year anniversary party we rented the local golf course
it was perfect for a monday night... They did a typical buffet meal and booze, phew otherthen the actual organizer Iwas the last to leave... and all was good out of the orginal class of 50 we Graduated 49 we have had 3 die,(1 lodd,2 "other") Iam thinking we have like 7 or 8 that left, got canned or had physical issues and left early, we had 27 show up .. I think that was actually a fair turn out for 3 weeks planning... I got my results, The good news is I passed (through osmosis I guess) and am currently 20 on the list, the bad news is there are only like 8 jobs..lol so If YOU ever get on study your ass off >:P.. I actually dont care
I Like whatI do now, I act as driver and LT. and hangon too, it keeps me thinking and active physically more then just driving would and I am the senior guy on my shift 3rd in my house 2nd on my company soe everyone can KMA....lol

Hey, I've been doing fine out here. I'm been pulling alot of shifts lately and it's been great. Haha, I think I've got in over 200 hours in the last few days of December. How have you been?

Josh,

I started at a very slow volunteer station. I moved to a different state to go to college, found a much busier department, ran bunches of calls, went to paramedic school, got hired as a full-time career firefighter and paramedic, and the rest is history. I had a really hard time if I missed a "good"call for a long time. Then I a) lost a couple of friends to LODDs and b) started training other firefighters. That helped me realize that there are other things more important than making every call, knowing that I couldn't work 24/7/365, and realizing that if I gave other people good training that I could make a bigger impact on outcomes than I could by myself.

It takes time, and the only way to get the experience is to put the time in.

Keep your chin up,
Ben

Josh,

I'm doing well, but extremely busy. I attended our state firefighter safety and health conference this weekend. FFN contributor Christopher Naum and Firehouse Magazine contributors Dave Dennison and Bill Tricarico had excellent presentations and participated in a round table last night after dinner.

However, I essentially didn't get any weekend time, so I have to start my second week in a row with no time off in the morning.

We're testing firefighter candidates next weekend, so I'm looking at three weeks straight without a day off.

The construction on our new training center is going well, with construction proceeding at an excellent pace. The tower frame is over 50% complete, so we're seeing what we'll be training on in a few months.

No one ever said being a Chief would be easy.
I knew what I was signing up for when I took the promotion.
One of these days it will slow down.

Backin my early days, as a jr and then a jr sr .... I used to have a knack, for being physic.. for real... If I saw for instance, my digital clock showing 11:11 , 99.8% of the time we were going out that night and to a structural fire... That was back in thelate 70's early 80's and we caught some work.. It also worked if I saw the firehouse clock which was military time and it could be 2121 or 2222 .... Obviously it was always "random" meaning if I "tryed to" notice it didn't work.. I could say , We're going out, later or even called a few of my buddies, but If I ever revealed how I knew it didnt work... eventually They began asking how I always knew, I explained and with various guys hearing and "harrassing me" about it it stopped...The guys who know me best at work always tell the rookies to watch me closely, If I gear up we're going to work if I'm going in layed back, then not to worry..lol

I like to keep em guessin
