Most all of the 54 departments in Harris County have gone to the Grace Electronic Accountability system. A transceiver is attached to the SCBA or the individual, and is activated automatically when you dismount the apparatus. Utilizing laptop comp...

Overlooking the obvious, it doesn't appear they have enough water flow either due to the nozzle gated down, an incorrect gpm setting, or a pressure issue from the pumper. This coupled with using a modified cone pattern means they are not getting p...

Personally, I believe the DOJ should have nothing to do with this program. They have since the inception of the PSOB, done everything possible to deny benefits to fire and EMS personnel. Law enforcement doesn't seem to have this issue. Wonder why?

I wanna get on your department. We never get any good calls like that, only the hum drum fires, wrecks, and medical calls. :o

I love the reply

Luke AFB is west of Phoenix and is rapidly being surrounded by civilization that complains about the noise from the base and its planes, forgetting that it was there long before they were. A certain lieutenant colonel at Luke AFB deserves a big pat on the back. Apparently, an individual who lives somewhere near Luke AFB wrote the local paper complaining about a group of F-16s that disturbed his/her day at the mall.

When that individual read the response from a Luke AFB officer, it must Have stung quite a bit.

The complaint:
'Question of the day for Luke Air Force Base:

Whom do we thank for the morning air show? Last Wednesday, at precisely 9:11 A.M, a tight formation of four F-16 jets made a low pass over Arrowhead Mall, continuing west over Bell Road at approximately 500 feet. Imagine our good fortune! Do the
Tom Cruise-wannabes feel we need this wake-up call, or were they trying to impress the cashiers at Mervyns early bird special?

Any response would be appreciated.

The response:

Regarding 'A wake-up call from Luke's jets' On June 15, at precisely 9:12 a.m., a perfectly timed four- ship fly by of F-16s from the 63rd Fighter Squadronat Luke Air Force Base flew over the grave of Capt. Jeremy Fresques. Capt Fresques was an Air Force officer who was previously stationed at Luke Air Force Base and was killed in Iraq on May 30, Memorial Day.

At 9 a. m. on June 15, his family and friends gathered at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City to mourn the loss of a husband, son and friend. Based on the letter writer's recount of the fly by, and because of the jet noise, I'm sure you didn't hear the 21-gun salute, the playing of taps, or my words to the widow and parents of Capt. Fresques as I gave them their son's flag on behalf of the President of the United States and all those veterans and servicemen and women who understand the sacrifices they have endured..

A four-ship fly by is a display of respect the Air Force gives to those who give their lives in defense of freedom. We are professional aviators and take our jobs seriously, and on June 15 what the letter writer witnessed was four officers lining up to pay their ultimate respects.

The letter writer asks, 'Whom do we thank for the morning air show? The 56th Fighter Wing will make the call for you, and forward your thanks to the widow and parents of Capt Fresques, and thank them for you, for it was in their honor that my pilots flew the most honorable formation of their lives.

Only 2 defining forces have ever offered to die for you....Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.
One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

Lt. Col. Grant L. Rosensteel, Jr.

The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month

Armistice Day (also known as Remembrance Day) is on November 11 which commemorates the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front, between the Allies of World War I and Germany. The Armistice was signed in Rethondes, France at eleven o'clock in the morning on November 11, 1918. U.S. President Woodrow Wilson first proclaimed an Armistice Day for November 11, 1919. An Act (52 Stat. 351; 5 U. S. Code, Sec. 87a)passed by the US Congress in May 1938 proclaiming, "a day to be dedicated to the cause… Continue

It is all subject to intrepretation

With discussions about "Health Care Reform" taking place all over the web, with all the outcries at "hometown meetings", armed people walking around at functions attended by the President, is it any wonder that "We the people" are concerned?

I was am a believer in the Bill of Rights, I do not necessarily align myself with "civil liberties" groups and firms. But an email was forwarded to me with an interpretation of the health care plan supported by the President. As I read this group's i… Continue

Uncommon Rescue

We were called out on a service call, a horse "stuck in a ditch". We arrived on scene and find the horse has fallen through and into a 500 gallon septic tank. Now I personally have never let my horses roam my yard, but the owners of this filly, (that's a young female horse for you city folk) let her do exactly that.

With assistance from the SPCA, veterinarian, and good sedation, we were able to extract the horse in just over an hour, and except for a few minor abrasions was uninjured.

This was… Continue

And just when you thought it couldn't get worse.... Part 2

As I referred to in my initial post about Nolanville, TX, it seems this was an understatement. A follow up story from Austin, probably had to be tamed down.

Angered residents sparked the special meeting to reinstate the department after Mayor Emma McCullough told the department that the city couldn't afford to keep them on the payroll.

"[It's] a little un-nerving, just because of the simple fact that if they don't have the gas to get to my house to put out a fire then, I'm going to be a litContinue

And just when you thought it couldn't get worse

Stories abound from all around the nation concerning, cutbacks in staffing, rolling "brownouts" and stations being closed, all due to budget concerns and shortfalls.

One Texas town, Nolanville, has gone the extra step and severed it's ties... with it's own fire department. You read it right. They cut off ALL funding for their own volunteer fire department. In addition, they cut 5 police officer's positions.

This little town of approximately 2150 residents will now have to rely on mutual aid. T… Continue

Yeah, I have a good friend who did some time and it was in part, from conversations I'd had with him that inspired me to wite "Life can Be funny Sometimes". He has completely turned his life around and now says going to prison was the best thing that ever happened to him in many ways, as it forced him to grow up & properly value life. Congrats on teaching as you do. I realize people who supervise those who have been in the "system" often have a have a tough and thankless job. You are also welcome for the add.
