31 plus years and still loving it!
October 24
Most of you are making me feel old. I have been doing this for 13 years. Had I not been the rebellious teenager and joined the same department as my brother when I was 17, I would have been doing this for 22 years. Instead I waiting until I was 26...

There are existing organizations but they are department based and not firefighter based. The needs of a department are not always one in the same with the needs of individual firefighters. However, before we go trying to effect change, we need to...

Top Issues Facing Responders:
The Fire Service is starting to move faster at getting safer and more efficient but the money doesn't come in fast enough for the smaller Departments to keep up on the required training.
The EMS training is very good except where an EMT-B is not trained or allowed to do things that a child could do, examples: take and read blood sugar readings, give insulin. We need to be trained harder and given a lot more responsibility to help patients on the scene.
I Love Being in Fire/EMS Because:
When people are still alive and knowing I made the difference.

I'm back

In January of 2008 I was kicked off of a scene and my Fire Dept because of false accusations by my best friend and his new best friend, but thats okay, I'm not bitter anymore. In November a couple of Firefighters that I had worked with in the past approached me and wanted me to come work for them as a paid volunteer at Orleans. The town had just hired one as Administrater and the other as Chief to fix and reorginize the department. It's been great, in just 5 months we've doubled the number of me… Continue

What drives me to be a firefighter/EMS responder

I started out 17 years ago when I was with a friend of mine and our town started flooding and I took him to the station to start rescue operations. The Chief asked if I wanted to help, so he give me a pair of boots and I jumped on the back of the truck and have been hooked ever since. Through everyt

Hi Ray...
I have had some chats with ur wife... Some good some not so good but in the end we sorted out our differences. Any way I just wish to express my condolences on the loss of ur son, I have small children and I love them dearly so I feel for u... I think that regarding Lisa's posts she is getting unduly hammered and I am very impressed to see you supporting her... Well done....

Luverne was taken over by Crimson. Our department has the last Luverne that was built before the change over to Crimson. We also have a 1950 Chevrolet Luvernne that is oddly enough spelled with 2 n's.

Close Calls is an area where we can share the things that went wrong and how we learned by them. Things to share that someone else will not do the same mistake twice.
