You know, I actually made my family mad at me over the whole 9/11 thing. At my grandmother's church they held an appreciation service for local police, fire, and EMS personel. I didn't go because I wasn't comfortable with all of the attention. I d...

Well, you can spot alot of cynicism in a couple of recent articles that I have written, so I will pose this question here: If doing what we do everyday, day in; day out, makes us "heroes", then what we are witnessing in today's fire service with c...

Firstly, my thanks to you Luke. You made a much better job of viewing Doug's article than I would have, sometimes I write quite well, othertimes not. Thanks Tony. I think it's always important to read things with an open mind and to try and remov...

Rebecca: I remember the firestorm that his Slate article created like it was yesterday. People are still finding it and reacting to it over six years later. Man; I wish my writing had that kind of impactful longevity. I don't know that he ever apo...

Yes I never argued Art, that the label "hero" was thrown around too much. I Just took offense at the attack on these men and their choice of career, especially having been around them for so long. One of my former best friends is a lifelong firefi...

I not only got a reply... I got the interview: http://www.firefighternation.com/profiles/blogs/889755:BlogPost:240185 His timing was bad and he may have poorly chosen his words, but if you read his book, "A Season of Fire", you see where his persp...

There's no doubt that this dip shit has no clue on many aspects of the job, however how about we take the emotion out of what he is saying and look some of it obejectively? And I've no doubt this will inflame some people, but if we're going to pos...

Thank you very much, you guys are the reason I made it out of that terrible period in my life. We are all family and we all watch out for each other no matter what. Thank you for the kind words.

Wow! It was all I could do to finish the article. Let's see him get out of bed at 3 am in sub-zero temps to fight a working house fire and finally get to leave 8 or 9 hrs. later. Then chip the ice off of his gear to get it off and get all of the e...

My Soldier What Can I Say...

My soldier, oh what can I say. I finally get to see him and it’s the most wonderful thing ever, words can’t even begin to describe how I feel. On the other hand, he is beyond ecstatic; he is in more of a blissful stage right now. Ask any soldier how they feel when they finally see their love after being apart for so long, nothing can describe it.
I love cooking him meals (anything’s better than MRE’s right guys?), cleaning his barracks room and yes, even his ever piling laundry because the trade… Continue

What NOT To Ask A Military Girlfriend/Fiance/Wife

People with stupid questions about the military. listen up!

Of course we are terrified. The thought always lingers at the backs of our minds-- but thanks, you just brought it back to the front. Maybe next you can go ask someone with cancer if they're scared of dying..

2. "I don't know how you… Continue

Italian Firefighters

Recently, in the small town of Garfield, NJ, a fire started inside the local sausage factory. In a blink the building was engulfed in flames. The alarm went out to all the fire departments for miles around.

When the first volunteer fire fighters appeared on the scene, the sausage company president rushed to the fire chief and said, 'All of our secret sausage recipes are in the vault in the center of the plant. They have to be saved, so I will donate $50,000 to the fire company that brin… Continue
