Your Firefighter Nation : Firefighter EMS and Rescue Social Network Box

Hey all, welcome.

My name is Cody, I am currently a ff/medic on Lawton Fire, a full time dept. I am also a medic on an ambulance service. Between the two services and being a single father I stay pretty busy. I love my life, my son and my careers.

I am also following family tradition I am a third generation ff, second generation medic. My son is six and has been trying to talk our training officer in to letting him go through academy. He has decided he also wants to be a flight medic also.

On my off days I like to spend time outdoors which is good because it is real hard to get my son to come inside at all. We like to take the boat to the lake, fish, camp, ride our dirt bikes & four wheelers, hunt, ride our horses, team rope, play ball (any), play video games (when weather is bad), and take our trooper out and play in the mud. As long as were together life is great. It sure is hard for me to take him to school every day, or to his mothers every other weekend because I'm lost without him. He truly is the reason that I'm alive.................

Ok in January I took a part time job at my sons school, I am substituting for the elem grades and working with some of the children that have learning disabilities. I don't spend much time with my son while we are at the school, but he thinks it is great that I'm right there in case he needs me. I think I'm learning more from them, then I'm teaching.
My son started karate and is doing really good, soon to start summer league baseball. It sure seems that the older he gets the busier we get.

Ok, it is july now and I haven't spent any time on the web. My mentor and guide in all my hard problems in life, My peepaw, passed away and it has been hard on me, the funeral was nice, there was 14 differant fire departments there. He was honored in three local papers and the state fire paper. On memorial day they read a poem on his favorite radio station about his very distinguished life. It is an honor to have been in his life, but it has been very hard after he passed away.

My son finished summer league baseball his team finished second in the league so he did pretty good. We've been fishing and swimming alot. We've been riding horses but not a lot of roping this summer. Spent some time on the river earlier in the year ride our dirt bikes and playing in the sand. Broke my trooper (anthrax) while playing in the river. Then got injured at work before I had time to fix it. So it and my son's trooper sit in the shop waiting till we can get to them. My dirt bike is collecting dust but colt is keeping my 4-wheeler warmed up. We got a new dog (small horse) brindle colored English Mastiff, named Samson, he is a pretty good dog.

I've been aloud to spend alot more time with my daughter this summer (Thank god for small miracles). She is now 20 mos old and a delight to be around. My son and daughter get along great, I was kind of worried because my son has been the center of my world alone for so long.

Enough about me and mine. Tell me about you.

YOU MUST LOVE LIFE, TO REALLY LIVE LIFE!
Besides nobody makes it out alive, so enjoy it today, you don't get the time back to do it over.
BE SAFE, HAVE FUN!

Heya! :) Make sure to watch the film I made for a scholarship contest promoting the benefits of drinking tea. The more views and 5 stars I wrack up, the higher my final score. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqibtYvPxtk

Hey Cody, nice to meet ya. Sorry to hear of your loss; I do believe I read about your grandfather in the Oklahoma Firefighter. Been in your shoes on that divorced with kids deal. Sounds like you make a hell of a Dad though! Holler back at this 40 yr old probie sometime and stay safe.
