Life is fair?

Today my service brought in a six year old boy who did not make it. I then went to work at the same hospital where I walked by his body several times and I begun to wonder why I put myself through this kind of emotional charade the ups and downs, When at work I walked by his body but did not know he was gone. He was alone everytime I walked by the bay and the door was closed but I did not think much of it. I am sitting here after finding out and wondering why I do it. Why have I made the decisio… Continue

I'm a girl therefore I'm useless?

So this is more to vent than anything else. I am new to the fire department and am switching over from EMS. On the ambulance I am respected and trusted because I have seen the calls and been there and worked side by side with the others on my service. However, now as I join the fire department for the first time no one is respecting not because I'm new and am learning that I would at least understand but no they are not respecting me because I am a female! There is a woman who has been on our vo… Continue

Thanks for all of you that gave advice on my post husband? I've talked to him and told him it was either me with my pager and all that came along with that or there was no me. Well it looks like I'm single again. Just thought you might like to know. Happy Holidays everyone.

Firefighter's Prayer

When I'm called to duty god wherever flames may rage give me strength to save a life whatever be its age

Help me to embrace a little child before it is too late or save an older person from the horror of that fate

Enable me to be alert to hear the weakest shout and quickly and efficiently to put the fire out I want to fill my calling and to give the best in me to guard my neighbor and protect his property

And if according to your will I have to lose my life bless with you

JoJo I just read you post about the six year old boy- rest assured that I know you did all that you could for the little guy. I know you are a damn good EMT, so never question that. As for the other thing with your new department screw them if they treat you different because you are a woman. I had a guy tell me once that I was no good for the department, and then had a fire in his shed the same night- I was suddenly good enough for him then! Just remember you are damn good at what you do and half of them just wish that you could do it as good!!!
