Our training schedule is set up where we will cover all the necessary training requirements for a probationary firefighter in a 8 month period. As long as they attend drills consistently they will meet the needed requirements and become certified....

Amy and Bill I agree with both, Our department is doing just that but in the meantime we still answer a call volume of 3000 to include EMS we are a department with 12 paid staff and 50 volunteers. We have a residency program and a paid per call pr...

As a City our hydrants are no more than 600' apart but we carry on each engine 800' of 5", As someone that use to lay hundreds of feet of two lines of 2 1/2 or 3" the 5" is the best firefighting invention that has come along in a long time

My advice to you is plan for the big one. It wil happen and as a department you will have to prepare for it. I live in a military town so that is kind of close to a college town, we have lots of young kids that make bad decisions everyday. But as ...

Profile Information

Hometown:
Havelock
I Live: (City, State)
Havelock NC
Years in Fire/EMS:
24
Why I Joined the Fire/EMS:
Was kind of forced to, but since that time it has been probably the best decision that has ever been made for me. I am so glad that there are people much smarter than me that made that decision and changed my life. Now I love it and wake up everday and thank god someone cared to make the difference. I love my job and the folks that work for me what a group top of the top
Relationship Status:
Divorced
Primary Fire/EMS Department:
Havelock Fire Rescue and EMS
Department Type:
Combination Fire Rescue Department
Rank/Role There:
Other Senior Command Staff, Captain, Firefighter / Paramedic (or Other ALS), Emergency Management Coordinator/Staff
Years With This Department/Agency
24
Dept. Web Site:
http://havelocknc.us
Other Past or Current Departments:
Started in Havelock in 1985, have held every postion from volunteer Asst. Chief to rookie Firefighter. Have always been atleast a volunteer with HFRD. Left Atlantic Beach Fire Department as a Lt. to work as a paid postion in Havelock Fire Department, Left Havelock to work at CRMC EMS as a medic, was promoted to interim manager of CRMC EMS and left there to return to Havelock Fire Rescue and have been there since. Not always sure it was the best but am happy with what is finally taking place in Havelock, things that have been worked on for years to improve the system that we providde for the 220 squre miles of service. We as a department could have never done it without the Mayor and City Board of the City of Havelock.
My Training:
Enough, I think I have earned my training from both real situations and formal education, But my last training was from UNC Charlotte Fire Rescue management Institute, which I might add is an excellant class if you have the time for four months
About Me:
Simple guy, but expect allot
Day Job:
HFRD
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Obama administration, Health and Safety, Communications, and finding funding for the little guys, not the FDNY, or CFD, or WDFD but the rest of us that truely answer calls daily with minimal staffing and or volunteers....some consideration when most of the volunteer staff is military
I Love Being in Fire/EMS Because:
It's the right thing
