I gotta say out of personal preference of wearing black and tan, I would take tan with orange reflects over the black mainly for the safety even though I am sticking with my trusty black helmet

We are into the start of our busy season (Sugar Cane Harvesting). We are beginning to receive many fire calls for cane fires, grass and residential fires as well.

I trying my best to keep our blogs and other sites updated regularly. See our site: http://bajanfirefighters.ning.com

Scott, the New Year seems to be off to a fiery start. We have had a number of house fires already and this is not a good sign so early in the year. Despite the advice we readily give to the public some persons are not taking the information seriously at all.

Hi Scott, glad you stopped by. Being a firefighter in Barbados is pretty much like any where else. We have our challenges like wearing that bunker gear with our climate really dehydrates the body. Besides that its great being in the tropics. http://devoted.to/bajanfirefighters

Thanks for the note on the L28 pic. Nice discussion on turnout gear. I enjoy reading others comments.

Scott - I just caught your followup question on DCCC - the discussion got buried on a day I wasn't on. Fairview FD is on the north side of Poughkeepsie, and their calls run the gamut from EMS to automatic alarms to frequent calls (several per day) for helicopter landings at St Francis Hospital's landing pad. They have the largest percentage of non-taxed property in their district of any FD in the county, because their district includes two colleges (DCCC and Marist College), the former Hudson River State Hospital (Psychiatric Center), and a number of other large nonprofit landholders. They also cover several miles of the east shore of the Hudson River, with CSX trackage carrying freight and passenger trains, as well as a mile or two of NYS Route 9. Their calls are varied, and it's a busy company - you'll have the opportunity to be active at almost any time of day, regardless of your class schedule.

Ron - Agreed - working in an area with many teaching hospitals we often get well meaning medical folks eager to help or to try their new skills on the street. We inform them if they want to take charge of the scene they must accompany the patient...
