Ms. Bare, Well I'm kind of getting the hang of the computor and have read your file. Welcome to the fire/ems service. I see you are no stanger to the activity even though you're not into suiting up as yet. No, now is the time to learn and in the course of learning get more of a feel for the various opertunities the fire service can offer also. Since I'm not sure where youn attend college in N.C. I can only offer a suggestion. You might check to see if the college offers coures in fire scienc or fire-engineering. Also you might check out the local fire dept., either at home or college and see if they can offer assistance. Hre in Chestertown we have a number of Washington College students who volunteer either in the fire co. or Kent & Queen Anne's Rescue Squad or both. Some are training in EMS work and of course also at night or weekends in the fire co. through MIFRI. Yes it is a juggle, but some seem to make it work. Also, in years past, and maybe now, students at U. of Md., College Park campus. Some resided at the fire station back in my days there.. Back in 1963 I was enrolled in Fire Protection Engineering, but as I put it, became a lost ball in HIGH weeds(studies) and didn't do too well, also finances cut education short. There are MANY fields and many different areas fire related. In this ever changeing world there are callings for fire/ems savy people and far too few to fill the need and I'm not speaking ofputting the wet stuff on the red stuff, many of those days are kind of gone. No not the fires but how we have to approach them. You probably know this, better than I, due to your family's involvement. Good Luck now a new school year is fast approaching. Oh, If you're back in Md. on Oct. 10th, the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Co. is holding a parade, etc. as we'll have been incorp. for 100 years. Yes, you'll have to leave the fall folage (sp) but you'll see some of the upper shore. In the meantime GOOD LUCK in all you do. Walt .
