My Training:
I have a file of about the size of a phone book, from Nims to Rescue from heights a mountaneering style course we took back in 1980 before there were High angle type courses, I was a Firefighter 3, until they did away with 3, I regret I didn't go for Fire officer and training at times, (Not that Often..lol) I as a dispatcher on a couple of occasions was able to save a life telling folks what to do over the phone, and I've done successful CPR on an infant Fire victim which was obviously a worthwhile experiance
About Me:
I'm a FF "14"
I've had about 5 FF 1 . 3 FF2 courses in my overall career and have FF3 status before they made it a 2 , and prior to the adoption of certs,..in fact the 1st administrator of our State Fire Academy adopted a few things I was using for training as a company officer back in 1979-80..lol and 20years later did some of them in my training for the job..lol. At one point was qualified to operate about 70 pumps and tankers , 3 quints, 11 Ladders including two tillers and three platforms..phew!! I wont even get into Medium and heavy rescue and special services vehicles....Thankfully I have slowed down a lot...lol
I was one of the founding members of my state's 1st Pipe band in the 90's and Have been documenting Pipe bands in the fire service since January '07 (over 130 Internationally) Looking for MORE out there....
MY site is called SMOKEn'Pipes @ www.phpbbserver.com/SMOKEnPipes
Day Job:
dirty word,,, I've been a truck driver, equiptment operator in thepastand on the side
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Back to basics !!! Lack of basic skills building and ability, opportunities to Fight Fires in most areas have gone down, Building materials have changed and create a more dangerous environment then ever before... for the increased safety we've gained we have lost 5 times that in Construction materials and degradations and intensity
I Love Being in Fire/EMS Because:
"when you walk out of a building in the financial district, and ya blow some black snots out on siome "suits' " armani shoes" an FDNY FF quote

Hey I'll let you know as soon as the new one arrives. Your welcome to stop by anytime. We don't have any problems w/ training...our mngt.actually supports it! The more training and activity we show the better...esp in the mmarine div. We are getting cut 9 positions on top of the 12 we lost last year. I don't think we can do it through attrition this time...guys will be going home. Our marine div is still secure this year...we'll see next year. Let me know if and when your coming up and we can hook up.

Hey Jim, Our new 65' has been delayed till late July delivery wise. I will get some pics as soon as I can...it's in the paint shop now so nothing current. Looking fwd to it though. Also hoping to get started on our new quarters...just waiting for DEP and Corps Of Enginers to approve permits. BTW our new quint for Bridgton is sitting in a dealership near you I believe? NEFEA in N. Haven? They are finishing up tool mounting, radio install, lettering etc. Hopefully we will have that next week or the week after...looking forward to it.

Our IAFF local, Local 413, just commissioned our first Pipe and Drum band. We currently have two snares, one bass drum, and 3 pipers. Only one of our pipers has his bagpipes at this time. The other piper and myself are "still in training."
