- My dad is a firefighter. If I hadnt joined the Coast Guard, I would have gone to fire school. When I found out they had a volunteer fire department in Brookings, it sounded like a great opportunity to help people.

- My name's Becca. I'm 20 and in the United States Coast Guard. I'm orginally living in South Florida, and did volunteer firefighting in Brookings, Oregon. I am now in Baltimore, MD. When I got stationed in Oregon I found out about the volunteer fire department and while I dont get there nearly as much as I'd like to, I love it when I can. It was hte best experience I could ask for, and cant wait to find a new one in Baltimore!

Yes I hope you can continue with fire-fighting. Good luck with the schooling, are you getting a specific trade or is this general coast guard stuff? Interesting factoid for you, Manitoba is in the midlle of the continent but we have coast guard stations on the Hudson Bay at Churhill and in one of big freshwater lakes, Lake Winnipeg in Gimli.
