Hi Art, It seems that many, not unlike myself, dont "ignore them", do "read them", do "share them" and dont feel that establishing further blame or critiqueing them to death are in anyone's better interest. Most seem to be sharing them, just not o...

PS: Ive learned that our websites and The Fire Service in generel could all take a lesson from the definition of a good church. "A church should be a hospital for sinners, not a museum for saints." We have an abundance here of experienced people w...

It is not too late to teach an old dog. I've learned when, someone has pushed my personal rage button, to get a good nights sleep before I hit the "Add Reply" button. Not that I was ever wrong, you understand, its just that I could have been more ...

Jim, My take on this is that certification does not come with the same entitlements as membership. When the uniform comes with membership, there will no longer be any issue. The way to salute when not in uniform is to 1) Take off your hat and 2) p...

Jeremy, Does that old lid say "Lakewood" on it. Small world. The quote that has come back to me most often, from my days as an instructor is this: "If you're going to bother to do it at all, bother to do it right." Another that seems to have ser...

Jeff, Venting these points is not going to lay them to rest. They are neither invalid nor new. Glad you feel better. Near the top of the list of Typical Personality Traits of Firefighters is the need to be in control. You will always find it painf...

Yo Brothers, I've been searching in vain for a simple patch with a cross and the words Fire Chaplain" on it. I'd love to know if such a thing exists. I like the one at the top of this page, but it is a little more elaborate then what I had in mind...

More background on the status of the Johnson/Kraft relationship might help, but I dont see this being about "patriotism" at all. Having that sticker on his locker in no way makes him any more patriotic than anyone else in the room who has chosen n...

Any department needs to develop a written protocol for uniforms. Here, as in so many other departmnets, active officers are ditinguished by white shirts, white hats and gold "brass". Members have blue shirts and hats and "silver" brass. When a chi...

Just wish our resources could be in Buffalo for the next year or so. Been in tears off and on all day just wondering if God got them out before they could suffer. We all get so used to little things happening on the fire ground that it's easy to numb ourselves to the bigger danger that is really out there. My reaction to the Buffalo news is not just about Chip, Joathan and their families..I just got a wakeup call about members of my family out there as well. Even people in my line of work can give into denial...go fig huh?

Hey there! Just dropped by to say hello. Not too much going on here. We have our annual open house and company inspection today. This past week we had a 2 story frying pan fire. Kept is confined to the kitchen and the stove. But it was a hot hot and humid night nonetheless. Stay Safe.

Padre! Haven't heard from you in awhile. Hope that things are well. Summer finally arrived here this weekend. Where exactly is Lakewood? We are in the midst of planning our 2nd annual open house/safety fair for the dept. This year we are including a full department inspection complete with everyone in their Class A's that the public is welcome to come and see. Stay Safe.
