Typically here in VA once the population of a county reaches 95,000 they begin som sort of paid service either full time or combination....thats been pretty much the model but it all depends on call load in my opinion....you could have a smaller c...

Paul, I can't think of a fairly large city in which they are all volunteer and I live in the northeast. Some are paid on call, and many have gone to an on-duty per diem staff (no benefits) but population is not the sole driving factor. NFPA has a...

In both towns I work in, we get along great. PD is in charge of traffic, and we have the scene itself. MVA, Fires, EMS etc. I have occasionally had to remind the officer's not to park right in the way. One younger officer asked if he needed to mov...

I have sent an email to our training division. I will keep in touch on anything we find out.

Great post. This is one of the great debates that go along with fog v smooth bore. I think a good mix of both, combined with training, hands on training, not just kitchen table talks are what it takes to do this job.

You know this is a great, although something we really don't want to think about, idea for training. I suspect, if the FF is concious, and knowing how we feel about our gear, there will probably be some consternation about cutting gear. I suspect ...

Im not sure where it's at, but research the Washington DCFD, I think the Cherry Road fire that killed several DC firefighters due to the wrong application of PPV. NIOSH should have something on it too. Good luck with the program.

Have your people get enthusiastic about it. They have fun and the motorists seem to respond by, if they were on the fence, a smile and a wave will many times sway them to donate.

I took it and loved it. It really opened my eyes to alot of the things we have done, that are now wrong. This was the best class I have ever attended, and with my Chief's connections, I have had the benefit of some incredible classes. I will take ...

Benevolence Funds

I got absolutely no response in the forums with this, so I will try here.

Our Local is starting a benevolence fund and we need some ideas on how everyone disperses the money. In otherwords, what qualifies, what doesn't, any tax issues incurred by the reciever of the money and so on. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Paul, I’m a retired Fire Chief and understand the importance of health & fitness for our responders. I joined FF Nation to share my incredible wellness story with everyone. Fitness is only a part of the equation; internal wellness is the real essential for healthy responders. Many of us need to get healthier. If you’re interested in more information about this life changing program please send me an email at: John@IncidentMT.com
Thanks, John
