Keep your chin up and do your best. Not every day is a good day. Remember that you have a lot to offer and ignore the idiots, they're not worth it. Is there anything in your community that you can join by yourself to get away from it all. Perhaps ...

Profile Information

Hometown:
Chicago, Illinois, USA
I Live: (City, State)
Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada
Years in Fire/EMS:
7
Why I Joined the Fire/EMS:
I really, really care about people, and if I can help them out and alleviate their burden of a traumatic experience, then I've done my job (the word "job" isn't really the right word, as I feel helping people in dire circumstances is not a chore, I feel it is a necessary component of my life and personality)
Relationship Status:
Married
Department Type:
Fire/Rescue Department - Paid
Rank/Role There:
Fire / Arson Investigator, Lieutenant, First Responder, Other Emergency Services Staff
Years With This Department/Agency
7
My Training:
I am currently a Lieutenant running crews. I am also a Certified First Class Firefighter (FF1 & FF2), and I am involved in Fire Investigations. I am also a First Responder Instructor & Evaluator. I am currently enrolled in the second year of my Bachelor of Fire Sciences Degree. I am also Hazmat Certified, and I am on the Auto Ex Competition Team.
Obviously, I love to learn!!!
About Me:
I am an American, living and working in Canada. My husband is a Firefighter also, and we have two small boys that are eyeing up the Junior Firefighter program when they are able. They have a few years to go, but they have basically grown up around the firehall and the firefighters, and they aren't sick of it yet!!!
Side Jobs or Other Organizations:
Along with Fire Department duties, I run my own Non-Profit organization which teaches Fire & Life Safety programs to all age groups. Each age group receives a customized, fun, interactive program that is appropriate for their needs and abilities. I have 8 other instructors, all firefighters, and we are having a great time with this! Great way to meet people too!
Top Issues Facing Responders:
There are a few, I will have to give this some more thought!
I Love Being in Fire/EMS Because:
I really care about people, and the commraderie with my teammates.

Evening Nancy. Getting snow? I have a friend there who just got ahold of me and was saying it was snowing there. Sunny and warm here. We are 4 miles from the California border on the Oregon coast. Its been about three weeks now of 70 plus weather. Be safe.

Welcome to the family where the language and reasoning importate the
border is not in our work is to save lives regardless of color, religion or social position, much less. The important thing in our work does not need language to communicate, or borders to help.

I don't know which money-wasting town you're from, but in my district we only send an ambulance and a first responder to EMS calls. Unless it's an Echo response, then we send additional manpower occasionally. As for the general public knowing wha...
