Why I Joined the Fire/EMS:
In 2006, after 12 years in the Army Reserve, and getting the military combat lifesaver and CPR training, I had occasion and ability to do CPR on a no-pulse, non-breathing 19 year old female who had been dragged into a neighbor's yard after overdosing on heroin. I got her back before the fire department got there. Only later did I come to know that the girl I did CPR on was a police officer's daughter, and he had died a few months before this incident. I figured I might be able to use my military training and gain additional experience and skill by joining our local fire department.
