Mike,

When I was hired they wanted 2 years experience in the fire service and training in chemical fire suppression. (if you've been trained in extinguishers that qualified!).

Since being hired in 1997, we have changed from a Unit under the City Department of Aviation to a station of the Syracuse Fire Department (long story there). Now its just another station that firefighters are assigned to. Dont get me wrong there are specific training requirements to work there just like a Haz Mat or Rescue Company, but we do that training on the job when a new firefighter comes into the company. Those requirements are based on FAA and local guidelines. Hope that helps.
