Hat's off to the bravery and commitment to the Moore son's. I know that when it comes to a family member being down, hesitation can come into play, put it shows the true professionalism of this family and the hero's it has. May God Bless the Moore...

If this person doesnt want to "fight" fires, is it possible they can respond to fire related calls as a pump operator? This way they are not actually dealing with the "beast" but is still there performing a VERY important job...But, I think if som...

Sounds like who ever is saying this is trying to dectate to other people what their job/roles are and not there roles be. If they are medical and ex firefighter they should have a choice of doing fires too or not, and if they don't want to they do...

I can't tell you what the member should do, I can't tell your chief what to do. I can say that there are fewer and fewer volunteers. I am a volunteer FF and I don't have up-dated first aid. I was a EMT about 30 years ago and left it drop. I help t...

Wow lots of responses... First the matter at hand: If you are on a FIRE department you should be capable to perform in a fire fighting capacity. To some that means putting the wet stuff on the red stuff. To some, that may be engineer, safety, and ...

I always say if you don't feel comfortable doing it don't do it. if some one tells you do do something an you dont feel comfortale tell them an if they give you a bad time look at them ask them if they would do it. Second learn how to do it on the...

I agree with Andy. There are plenty of other jobs outside of the IDLH area that need to be done. The people in our department that don't wish to fight fire are trained in medical and pump ops. The guys that really want to fight the fires don't wan...

There was fatality in Utah in 06-07 were a fire went across a mowed hay field, can't think of the name of the fire. (brain drain) Would you consider this a grass fire using your definition? Not bashing or anything just asking.

There's always the side of me that wants to be warm and fuzzy, welcoming everyone to the firehouse, with expectations that they think and feel the same way that I do about the fire service. I wish this was always the case. The truth of the matte...

I consider that a wildland fire and not a grass fire. I guess its more of a "definition" based question. I consider a grass fire when someones normally maintained grass is on fire. To me waist tall "grass" that is on fire is a brush fire.

Profile Information

Hometown:

I Live: (City, State)
Estancia, NM
Years in Fire/EMS:
just shy of 6 yrs in EMS
Why I Joined the Fire/EMS:
I joined the volunteer departments as a way of giving back to my community. I have been active in this way of life since I was 13 yrs old. I was considered one of the first cadets in the county when they started that program. Now, one of the members of the first department I was with, is now our county fire marshall. Funny how all of that works. Then late 2003, I had the opportunity to become an EMT. Something that I had always been interested in, especially after my dad had a heart attack (that happen in '96). When I saw what needed to be done and no one was around to help, thats when I knew it was my time to start looking into the medical field. Now, here I am...

About Me:
Been happily married for almost 10 yrs now to my best friend. Volunteer with one of the county fire departments when I can. Normally, my husband is my driver. I use to driver semi-trucks cross country with my husband...you would not believe how many accidents we either came across after the fact of right after they happened. I helped out more on the road than I do at home.
Side Jobs or Other Organizations:
Working around the house, doing crafts and photography...I guess you could refer to all of that as side jobs, right?!?!
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Not being able to get a crew together in time; when rig goes down have to first-respond in other fire equipment instead of rescue, political issues that hinder the growth of the department; constant personnel changes. These are just a few things of concern to me.
I Love Being in Fire/EMS Because:

Just trying to find new people to connect with

I am new to this site and so far, i'm liking it. currently, i am not active as far as being a firefighter, just EMS. I gave up the fire about 11 yrs ago. Caught in a scary situation and said that it was time to back out. Don't get me wrong, fire still fasinates me, but just can't fight it. So, that is why I now do the EMS thing...still lets me be a part of my department and community. With that in mind, I am looking at making new friends in NM and all over the world on this site. Would love to l… Continue
