My department along with four other departments in Cumberland County make up Team 500. Team 500 or TROT Team (Technical Rescue Operations Team) can be called out to neighboring Counties for Trench Rescues, Confined Space Rescues, Stucture Collapse, etc. Team 500 is 100% volunteer. We have not gotten alot of calls but we have great training events and look forward to serving our area in these capacities.

Top Issues Facing Responders:
For those of us in Cumberland County, Pa it is definately getting the kinks out of the 800mhz system. Otherwise I believe it is retaining active members in a society that is so "self" oriented.
I Love Being in Fire/EMS Because:
When the pager goes off and you don't know what you will be getting into.

Awake and Sick

I have had this crap that is going around for 5 days now. I have slept more in the last 5 days than I did in a long time. It is 3:30am and I am wide awake. The only thing saving me is the fact that I am a Landscaper by trade and I am currently laid off. I don't have to be at work tomorrow so that is good. I have missed a couple of calls due to being under the weather. I really hate when that happens. Anybody got any advice for kicking the cold/flu? I have been trying to keep hydrated and eat

Yeah, met my wife down here in Texas when I was in the Army. I was raised in Elizabethtown, and we moved to Mechanicsburg when I got out of the service. She didn't like the winter so we moved back to Texas. Wasn't a bad deal, almost every medium sized city has a paid department, so I was able to get hired quickly down here, as apposed to the 2 year hiring cycle of Harrisburg.

I loooved Pheonix. My mom's job transferred us to Columbus when I as in high school. I want to go fight fires in Cali, ideally. Looks like you're just as sick as I am, I haven't gotten out of bed in exactly five days either. I don't have any advice, but if anyone tells you anything good send it my way. I've drank so much Gatorade and Theraflu in the past week but nothing feels like it is helping.
