Why I Joined the Fire/EMS:

when i was 16 yo I was introduced to the fire service through a spring break week in Oklahoma... I was visiting relatives at the time, spending the day by myself while they were at work, and I start hearing sirens, LOTS of sirens....so me being naturally curious I step outside to see what's going on .... I see LOTS of people, and cool looking firetrucks just everywhere ...so again, my curious nature takes over and walk down to see what's up. The house was only partially involved at the time, and the volunteer FD put it out pretty quick ... then everyone started going in to see what they could salvage. I had nothing better to do, so I pitched in to help. I had never really been around fire before, but as soon as I walked in, I was hooked. The way it burned some things, but not everything just amazed me... I was completely mesmerized by the whole thing. I was walking through part of the house that was damaged the most I guess, and I stopped one of the firemen and asked him what caused the fire, and he proceeded to show me exactly where it started (electrical) and why. I could of spent all day listening to him and talking to him about all of it (I guess he thought I was just playing around)but I was, from that point on, addicted to learning more. When my family got home that night, I relived the whole tale, and told them that i wanted to be a FIREFIGHTER someday ... they all laughed and said FF is not a proper lady ...I said .."who's a lady" I think my family thought I was nuts, and so to appease them, I put the being a FF notion out of my head ...at least temporary. I became secretly addictive and would chase firetrucks so I could watch them work and see how it was all done. Then in the late 90's I met a fireman that asked me if I loved firefighting as much as I did, then why wasn't I a FF, and I told him what my family had said... he said there were women firefighters all over the place and that if it was something I wanted to do, that I should go for it and not let anyone tell me that I can't. It took me a while for him to convince me to "go for it", and it wasn't until after his death that i actually WENT FOR IT. but before that, he had given me training advice, and told me everything that I needed to do in order to be hired. We had spent one whole summer training, getting in physical shape... that was the BEST summer i ever had and my last summer with him, but he left me his courage to go after what I wanted, and within that next year I was ready. He also told me to sign on with a Volunteer dept to get more "on-the-job" training....and that would help as well. I then became totally obsessed with firefighting...it was crazy. I started going through a really nasty divorce about this time, and my ex started using the fire dept against me, saying i was gone all the time and was never home (I only did 4hour shifts at a time, and that was about twice a week maybe), but he insisted throughout the divorce proceedings and so to focus on that, I dropped out of the volunteering, and cancelled my interview with the DFD. Talk about devestating... anyway, I've always kept in contact with my fire buds, and I am still totally addicted. My friends dont understand it, nor does anyone else that I meet....most of them think I'm just in it because of how HOTT all the firemen are ....really?? no offense guys, but have you SEEN real firemen? I mean they're not ALL like the FF Calendars make them out to be. Not that I wouldn't take any ONE of them (cause I would in a heartbeat...most of my FF buds know this too; -)), but I'm not in it for what most people see in the Calendars.... I'm in it because of what you dont see! No matter what anyone thinks or says, FIREFIGHTING will ALWAYS be a part of me! Even if I dont get to play, I'm still in the game! ♥

Chase will always be a part of me

I Love Being in Fire/EMS Because:
it is just the best feeling when you have done something to help someone else.

Firefighting is not just a Job .... It's an adventure!

♥ Nobody but a Firefighter gets the obssession ♥
nothing else matters
I was born & raised in Texas. Wouldn't live any place else! I do however, LOVE roadtrips!! I would love to travel overseas to Ireland & Scotland and visit relatives . . . hopefully someday!

It's a Texas Thang ... you wouldn't understand
Love making new friends, especially those who I share common interests with, but I do believe that opposites attract as well . . . so bring on diversity!!

Briefly About Me:
A few of my hobbies include: Archery, photography, wine tasting, art museums, music festivals, and most recently - cooking. I am a HUGE Red Sox fan (I dont know how I became one being from Texas and all, it just happened and I LOVE baseball!), I like staying up late, when the rest of the world is sleeping ...it is SO peaceful!

More to come . . .

This is the coolest!!

My name is Adel and I am trying to figure out what products are best for female firefighters. I have worked as a firefighter for only three years so I am just getting started. Currently I am a student at Eastern algerinne University in in the Fire & Safety Engineering Technology Program. Although I have only been a firefighter for three years I have had my fair share of small gloves that were still too big and pants that went up to my belly button! I was wondering if you could take the time out of your busy schedule to share some of your favorite/best fitting/most functional products for female firefighters. Weather it’s an awesome fitting pair of pants, A polo shirt that has sleeves that do not go down to your elbows, a pair of great gloves, or boots that have an awesome fit. It would be greatly appreciated if you could share your opinions with me. Thank you very much. Please feel free to e-mail me back at adel_pomper@hotmail.com or leave me a commentDelete Comment
