Duane Monkres said… - Jim, I think my response to your questions about the FireBug didn't make it to you. Sorry. At the risk of repeating myself, the Bug is a '77, outfitted with retro bumpers, which makes it look like an earlier mode. I rescued it from a field in central Oklahoma. It was an ugly yellowgreen color, but had hardly any (visible) rust, and even after setting there would start with a battery jump. It had zero brakes. After a lot of time (years), a lot of work, and more money than I had anticipated, it's what you see today. The windows bear the graphics: Tribute to Oklahoma Fire Fighters. The FireBug is used in parades and shows, and is always well received. I have never abused the use of the emergency equipment, so I have never had any difficulty with law enforcement. My biggest fear is that some rookie officer will stop me on the way to a show or parade, give me a ticket and impound the vehicle. The ticket I can handle, but having this machine impounded is something I hope never happens. (You may have noticed the pix of the cop writing a ticket: that's staged, and the cop is my son. Snow removal seems like a good gig if you want to work. Have nailed a couple with contracts to some property we own. Snow removal or snow plowing, one contract said removal, told them they must take it away. As well that they must get out of there truck and shovel the side walk as well as the entrance not just the driveway. Whats the old saying sometimes you have to do it yourself if you wanted done right...

- The rig that I'm up against is one of our Tankers. We have 9 fire halls, and one of our fire fighters actually makes them (Dependable). Each one has some issues, we do get to put some input on what we would like with them. But it's always after the fact that you re-think your ideals and the next one is a little better. Nice truck, Cat motor had to be govern to much power.

- Went to Trenton High was a Nurse at Belleville General Hospital, then moved to Sault Ste. Marie where my Mom's family was. Missed out my chance getting into the military. 6 of us went down to Peterbrough and applied, 2 of us got in.
Living in a small town, your jack of all trades and master of nothing. Was not very good in school, and have done more schooling with the fire dept. Again taking another course this weekend, flash over instructor. One job your always learning from others. Just finished doing the snow, back living in the country and 750ft driveway was full this morning of snow. How did you make out your way from that storm last night?

- Check out the some of the Groups, I have started up "Close Calls" an area to tell your story of what you did and should not of so others learn. "Roll Calls" this is another group that allows you to tell us about your station and district. "Trainers Corner" is another area that you can read about issues other trainers have or deal with. As well if your not a trainer you can ask questions or state concerns you have. If you have a hard time locating them just go to my site and look at the bottom left hand corner.
