Medway, Ohio
Years in Fire/EMS:
5
Why I Joined the Fire/EMS:
I participated in a FF1 class as a reporter to write and take pictures of the experience for a levy that was on the line...needless to say, the levy passed and I was stuck:-) Graduated from paramedic school in '05.
Relationship Status:
Divorced

Fire/Rescue Department - Volunteer
Rank/Role There:
Firefighter / Paramedic (or Other ALS), Driver / Engineer

Second Department (if appl.)
Previously Bethel Township, Miami County
2nd Department Type:
Fire/Rescue Department - Volunteer
Rank/Role at Second Department:

Years With Second Department/Agency

My Training:
FFI, Paramedic, Haz-Mat Ops. Looking to start tackeling NFPA 1670 stuff soon...
About Me:
Divorced with four kids, not crazy just fertile...lol. They are 18, 13, 13 AND 11. At least two of them have the bug and love being at the station and wanting to be in fire/ems when they're older. It's kind of neat thinking I may have started the first generation to a long line of volunteering:-)
Day Job:
Screening potential organ and tissue donors....
Side Jobs or Other Organizations:
Between full time work, part time paid and volunteer work, there's not much time for extra stuff. Working on my degree and that about fills up the schedule.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Recruitment and retention in the part time paid/PPC department. How much longer can these departments hold on? Many in my area refer to themselves as full time, part timers, and as the numbers of volunteers dwindle and the training requirements climb, I don't see how some departments will survive...
I Love Being in Fire/EMS Because:
Challenges...I love being the person that makes a difference in someone's difficult time...

Good chilly morning...

I noticed a few weeks ago that I seem to have obtained shit magnet status...you know, seeing stuff you've only read about, getting those runs that make you just want to go home and pretend that day never started. Nah, that's too dramatic of a statement...the girl in me comes out sometimes:^) Good learning experiences, that's what I meant to say.

In December, had a lovely ice storm that came through and caught everyone off guard. Although I must admit, being in Ohio it's hard to predict what the… Continue

Any takers on the Manny job yet? You should get a little busier since you have about 15 minutes free a week right now. Maybe you could squeeze in a few more activities!

Hey!

My name is Amanda and I am trying to figure out what products are best for female firefighters. I have worked as a firefighter for only three years so I am just getting started. Currently I am a student at Eastern Kentucky University in in the Fire & Safety Engineering Technology Program. Although I have only been a firefighter for two years I have had my fair share of small gloves that were still too big and pants that went up to my belly button! I was wondering if you could take the time out of your busy schedule to share some of your favorite/best fitting/most functional products for female firefighters. Weather it’s an awesome fitting pair of pants, A polo shirt that has sleeves that do not go down to your elbows, a pair of great gloves, or boots that have an awesome fit. It would be greatly appreciated if you could share your opinions with me. Thank you very much. Please feel free to e-mail me back at amanda_cherry4@eku.edu or leave me a comment.

Stay Safe,
Amanda Cherry

Hi fellow divorcee and mom, lol. I too may get to start the first generation of a long line of firefighters, but of course my daughter is only 3 and my nephew only 4. But they love the fire station!
