They did have a "law" you had to its what lead to Bourkes being taken off .however as i understand it now you can wear bourkes "flipups" as long as you can provide proof of safety glasses impact resisitant..as i do

My department orders the 4" shields for our helmets. I do carry additional safety glasses in my gear. I also have heard nothing about NFPA issuing new standards.

My wife and I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter and we just found out that we are going to have a Son! I am on cloud 9, I can't wait to raise him around the fire service. My daughter already loves the Fire Department. Just some exciting news I thought I'd share.
