!!!!!!!!NEWELL FIRE REPORT'S IN THE LAST MONTH!!!!!!!

NEWELL - An area man is dead following an early-morning fire that engulfed two homes Friday along Jefferson Street in Newell.

Witnesses told fire officials that Glen William Bellville entered the burning building at 510 Jefferson in an attempt to save the family pet, but he never made it back outside.

His body reportedly was found on the first floor of the home, near the door.

Newell Fire Chief Scott Wilson stated that neighbors saw a man, believed to be Bellville, exit the burning house but then go back into it.

Neighbor Connie Hicks, who lives three doors down, said the man returned to the home in order to get his dog.

The fire began at 510 Jefferson, then spread to 508, a white home next door, before firefighters arrived, Wilson said.

According to a 911 report, the fire was called in by a neighbor at 2:13 a.m. Deputy Patrick Hoder of the Hancock County Sheriff's Department was the first to arrive on the scene, at 2:17 a.m.

According to Sheriff Mike White, Deputy Brian Cunningham and nearby resident entered the white home, safely evacuating both homeowner Thelma Drumm and her daughter.

Wilson said Drumm, who is disabled, was carried from the home.

Some items may be salvageable from Drumm home, according to reports.

White said the fire is under investigation.

"The fire marshal will be up later, but the fire is believed to have started on a stove," White said.

According to Wilson, the home the fire started in has been deemed a total loss. The white home next door sustained heavy external and water damage.

Neighboring homes also were evacuated as a cautionary measure. There were no other injuries, Wilson said.

Chester, Newell, New Manchester, New Cumberland, and Lawrenceville fire departments responded to the scene, with Hookstown and Liverpool Township fire departments placed on standby.

The water, power and gas companies also were notified.

"While we were there to finish putting up the caution tape, we saw a small spot that needed (put out again)," Wilson said Friday.

............NEWELL VFD FIGHT'S BLAZEN FURY............
NEWELL - Newell firefighters responded late Tuesday night to a report of a house fire on Winston Lane, off of Congo Arroyo Road.

The fire department arrived on the scene at 11:05 p.m.

The homeowners were inside at the time of the fire, but were safely able to exit the home with their two dogs. One dog has been reported missing, but firefighters did not immediately believe it perished in the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but is not considered to be suspicious at this time. New Cumberland, New Manchester, Lawrenceville, and Chester volunteer fire departments were called to assist. The Hookstown Fire Department was on standby for backup. Officials from the Hancock County Sheriff's office also were at the scene.

Doing good, we've had two calls today.

We got stood down on the first and had a car fire for the second.

So not too bad of day. But you know when you get two, there's normally a third looming...
