at the end of this year it will be my first year as a firefighter and not a juniour and i have been an emt for almost a year as well.

Why I Joined the Fire/EMS:
I live in a small community and most of my family has been or still is part of the fire department. The ambulance service in our area is volunteer and runs 24/7 with only 11 EMT's.

About Me:
I have been with the Hume FPD for 25 years. I started in 1977 and then moved away. I came back and have been on the department ever since. Began my EMS career in 2005 as an ambulance washer and became an EMT-B in 2006. Both services are volunteer.
Day Job:
Maintenance-Wal-Mart
Side Jobs or Other Organizations:
Casey's General Store one day a week as a truck unloader and stocker. Also the Hume Festival Committee.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
The lack of new firefighters and emt's. Retention of newbies and veterans. Training, training materials and willingness to train. Safety and health.
I Love Being in Fire/EMS Because:
Be the first in and possibly be able to do some good.
