I Love Being in Fire/EMS Because:
To me it is all about doing for others what most people would not even consider!
I am the President of my volunteer company. It is a real struggle to keep the company intact socially. There used to be a time when you just followed the rules and did what you were supposed to, but now I don't know. It seems as if people want to change the rules just to benefit themselves. Bylaws, what are bylaws? It drives me nuts when I hear the bylaws are just guidelines. In my opinion if you have a stong social or business (whichever you prefer to call it) side, it makes the firematic side stronger.

If you can follow and enforce a set of rules for something as simple as a meeting it makes following your sops and sogs natural. However, the converse is also true. When I see bylaws that are bent or ignored it starts a snowball effect that works its way into the firematic side.

We are all there to fight the fires, that is our main reason of being, but in order to be successful we have to have a strong business end. If you let that end collapse guess what, there is no more company or department. Ask yourself, do you really care what happens on the otherside? I hope so because they are interlinked. Can you do more on either end? Delete Comment
