I agree. These posts do keep us on our "A" game. I love it and I'm actually learning in the process.

Yes he actually does allow beards. In fact our second Capt. has a beard. I would hope that he knows he would be held liable. Hell, he has a huge handle bar mustache that I'm sure would not fit into our masks. He has become extremely safety oriente...

When it comes to CISM teams, well I treat them the same way as news reporters. I politely turn them away at first. If they persist, I get real mean real fast. If I want to talk about something, it will be with one of my fellow officers or my wife,...

Jack, I'm sorry I can't answer any of those questions. They are great questions that I would love to see some answers to. As far as the facial hair issue goes, my Chief's response is, "I had someone tell me for 32 yrs. how to shave my face. I'm no...

Unfortunately this happens all to often. No one wants to have their flaws pointed out to them. Especially when it comes to the safety of their crews. Our dept. has came a long way with safety since we started reviewing these reports. We now have a...

Hey Art. Very nice discussion. Our Chief actually gets these reports in his e-mail and brings them up to us at our monthly meetings. After the meeting, he hangs them on the message board at the station for us to re-read if we want to. Whenever we ...

Well said chief. Lead by example. Chief Sharp`s words not only work in this industry, but in all of business. As a manager, that is what you become as chief, you will need to not only understand the crew`s needs but be able to direct them. You wil...

Hey Capt. Thanks for the invite. You have 4 pages of comments, and it seems alot of support. So thier is probably nothing I can add that hasn't already been said. But from an officer to another officer, never forget where you are from, stay ground...

Wow John, you caught everything I did so there's really no point in me even trying to reply to this. I gotta say, the knock down with the deck gun was pretty impressive.

Didn't reply on your discussion, because I didn't have any better advice than what was already there. But,I did want to say "Good Luck" in the election.

Yeah were only about 25 minutes from the Illinois border. It's nice to be close enough to Chicago when you want to have some fun but just far enough away to still have the small town feel TCSS... Dustin

Well Cap, the cool thing is, she loves rail fanning as much as I do!! We've been chasing trains together for ten years now. She's really all for it! She's had the bug lately to go catch some CSX action up near Erie, but the weather, and her work schedule haven't been cooperating. Thanks for the congrats! Finally a woman who puts up with the fire service, and all my hobbies!! Can't beat that! Thanks again!

Hi Cap, getting married(2nd time) May 1st. I think we're either going to Horseshoe curve, or Cumberland Maryland Holliday Inn, and staying in the Railroad room, for our honeymoon. It overlooks the CSX enterance tracks to Cumberland yard. That's CSXs busiest yard on the east coast, according to my research. Should be fun! I always thought Thurmond WV. was the busiest. I guess it's second busiest. I'll get some photos to share with you..

Very cool Cap! I'll go check that out. I've only had two cab rides. One in an SD40T-2(Bessemer & Lake Erie), and the other was in a GE AC4400cw(CSX), both while rail fanning along the right of way with a camera in my hand. Took some shots out the windshields on each so when I got my photos back, I'd know I didn't dream it all!! And if you get time, check out thr OC&T railroad. It's a short line just 3 miles from me. They also have a couple Alco RS1s and an MLW unit. Nice railroad.

I've been on some rides here in Indiana. I actually worked on a shortline in Knightstown. I've rode an RS-3, E8,E9, and I can run a GE 44 tonner. We had 2 on the line I worked on. Go to CKS Railroad and look at the pics. I'm in the white shirt and bibs.
