Hey there! I hope you have a safe trip home and don't have any trouble with Ike. But like you I don't understand why they send you back now. Are there others that will be replacing you?

I am the Chairman of the Lake Effect Firefighter Ski Race- and appear in the picture you like. I am lead on the hose, followed by my wife, our Chaplain (always have to have the right hand of God on your team!) and our Anchor. It is a great time. You guys have anything like that in Cali?

EMSTI in Stockton. CSD is basically Elk Grove Fire. =) Cosumnes Community Services District which includes Elk Grove, Galt ...kinda the south sac county lines and... northwest?-San Joaquin county lines are it's boundries.

The smoke is finally lifting up here in the valley... the Butte fires were crazy. How's it goin down south? The fires in the north and central coast stole the show up here.

The Glassmaster is the least of a variety of evils for windshield removal in my book. we leave the windshield alone whenever we can, but sometimes it's got to go. Those situations are any time you're going to front-flap the roof, severely damaged windshields that protrude into the passenger compartment, and situations where a patient is entangled in the glass. (The "Necklace of Death" extrication.)

Taping the windshield never works in the southeast - either it's raining, blowing dust, or so humid that the tape won't stick.

Compared to a recip saw, the GlasMaster is an improvement. It has it's own punch tool to make the starter hole with, so you don't need a separate punch tool. The blade is wider and has fewer/larger teeth than the recip saw windshield blades, so there are fewer glass chips flying around. They don't fly as far with the GlasMaster, either. We usually invert a long spineboard and pin it against the inside of the A-posts when we cut a windshield as well as covering the patient with a sheet, tarp. or fire blanket. (Carbusters-style hard and soft patient shielding) The GlasMaster doesn't require electrical, air, or battery power, and it is much more portable than powered saws.

We base the soft protection on the weather and scene hazards - fire blanket if there is a lot of fuel spilled or if the car is sparking or has been on fire. The tarp is for rain and the sheet is for dry, hot weather.
