I think one of the reasons that Chief's don't want to train themselves is that in position and function they are above the level of most in house training. Add that to the fact that as an officer, they are usually having to conduct the training an...

Bull, we're early in on this one again and it hasn't broke out yet. We're one short with Brian gone who is with the next in engine...lol

Whats up man, thanks for the friend request and thanks for your response to my discussion. My chief officers push training and try so hard to make things work but few want to do anything. It's scary when I think about the big one. Anymore, I hope the big one doesn't happen because I'm afraid of a possible end result.

They call me AXE at my station. Don't know why but throughout my years in the company different guys have called me that and it kinda stuck.

I respect your training background. If you're ever planning on moving into Monessen, I'll have an ap ready for you!

stay safe, talk to ya. Delete Comment

Having a female team is really awesome. We run with 3 surronding counties and they are mostly guys, a few girls at times that we work with, but as I said mostly guys. But they treat us no different. We are a hard workin bunch of girls. The cool thing is we bust our butt and it shows because whenever something goes down they will get on the horn quick an in a hurry to call us. Imagine your back up being 11 gals!
But we have alot of respect around here and are very close with all the firefighters, like family. Take care and be safe....Chief Ayers

Well Bull its always tough when you have new recuits. Im a really tough chief when it comes to my guys, they have a tremendous amount of respect for me because of time & position, just like you. When I have rookies that are just coming off probation I have my senior officers set down and go thru our sog's with them and make them understand just exactily what there position is with-in our dept. Now dont get me wrong we are a vol. dept but we run a tight ship because of all the laws and bylaws that are out there...And it only takes once for a new recruit to do something wrong and it comes back and bites you on the butt...lol..I see where your coming from with all the training he has done but one thing he dosent have is your knowledge and experence...I thank if I were in your position and you felt comfortable with this individual I would allow him to get his feet wet under your supervision, if it comes a time when he or she is not familiar with the situation have them stand back and observe...I never talk down to my guys but i do make them understand without them getting upset and jeopardize a possible good or great fireman. One thing I done as I went up the chain of command is I would stand back and just watch my guys work and correct them on the spot if need be, it not only made me aware of who they are but what they were capable of doing...And as you know hands-on teaching is a whole lot better then reading out of some book or watching a film...I hope this helps brother and be safe out there...My Hats off to ya...

Backdraft is an awesome movie even though it is a little far fetched in most parts. Ladder 49 is also a great movie that is more realistic. Both are #1 in my opinion, I'd rent, or better yet buy, both and get it over with.
