I Live: (City, State)
GREENVILLE, SC
Years in Fire/EMS:
28 YEARS IN FIRE
Why I Joined the Fire/EMS:
I love challenges. I enjoy helping people. I seem to respond well under pressure. The fire service appeared to be able to offer these opportunities for me along with many other benefits. I decided to join the fire service after praying for guidance to find out if this is what GOD'S will for me was.
Relationship Status:
Married
Primary Fire/EMS Department:
Greenville City Fire and Rescue
Department Type:
Fire/Rescue Department - Paid
Rank/Role There:
Lieutenant, Hazardous Materials Team Member
Years With This Department/Agency
28 years
My Training:
Fire fighting, rescue tech, hazmat tech, wmd tech, red cross cpr/aed instructor, fire instructor 1
About Me:
Married with two beautiful daughters, both out of school and married. One lives here in Greenville and the other lives in Oklahoma City. I also have a two year old grandson. And proudly, he has me wrapped around his finger.
Side Jobs or Other Organizations:
I am a licensed electrician and operate a small electrical business on the side.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
The top issue is the same with all responders: MONEY! Also working hours. In 28 years, I have seen our pay and benifits go from unsatisfactory to below average. I have seen our work load, responsibilities, and job hazards go from excellent to unsatisfactory. In other words the pay has increased 30-40% and the work load has increase by 65 to 70%, and the calls have increased by 400%
I Love Being in Fire/EMS Because:
I love the challenge, excitement, benefits of helping people and saving lives.
