JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — Officials say nine firefighters have been injured while battling a five-alarm fire in Jersey City.

Fire Director Armando Roman told The Jersey Journal that (http://bit.ly/z4Zv5e [3]) Capt. John Arvanitis was on a roof overhanging a ground floor business when he was knocked to the ground by some roofing material he and other firefighters were removing. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Eight other firefighters also were taken to the hospital and treated for heat exhaustion.
The fire was centered in a two-story, wood-framed building. Fire officials told the newspaper they were not sure how many residents were displaced, but said the property had between six and eight second-floor residential units.
The fire was declared under control at about 7:45 p.m. No cause has been determined.
