It's best to find yourself a hobby to occupy your time. I cook, bake, sew, knit, scrapbook- all kinds of things to fill the void when my husband is a way. He is only a volunteer, but he drives truck for a living, and I have lots of alone time with the children. It is a hard adjustment at times, but eventually it will all come together. Good Luck!

Have a baby...lol. I was a FF wife after 4months of dating and shortly after we got married we started trying to have a baby and it happend right away. It used to really suck to have him gone so much he works 24 on 48 off. Now I'm sooo busy with the baby, I just enjoy my down time!! I'm really joking....kinda.... but the woman before me is right, just try and find something YOU enjoy. Learn how to enjoy your time to yourself and then enjoy the time you do have with him. Just a pointer...let him unwind for a bit when he gets home before you have a list of all the things you want to do together. That was one thing I have had to work on. I also suggest to read the book I Love a FireFighter. You can find it on the Barnes and Noble website for about 16 bucks or so. Keep in touch and Good Luck

Go out with your girlfriends as often as possible....They will be the best support that you will ever have... and have kids...I have two and they take up most of my time so that I dont think about him being gone so much....

Ive been with my fiance for 6 years now, and i found the best thing for me is to get as involed with the department as i can. We made a womens auxliery, or the FF Wives Club as we call it, and we help out with the food for training fires, or events, help plan things that the department might be doing, and its nice to have some other people around you that know what your going through. He's had a few close calls over the past few years, and the amount of support that you get from the brotherhood, and wives is like none other. He works 24/48, but then works 12 hr days on his 2nd off day at another department so our time is scarce. Just try to get as involved as you can, it helped me!

You need to get a hobby, but also you need to be involved with him. Try to become part of an auxillary. We have made it a family thing. Yes my husband is there more but on weekends we go and enjoy the time together.
